Reiki and the chakra system: Understanding the Connection

Reiki and the chakra system are often mentioned together, leading many people to assume they are the same practice. In reality, while they share some similarities, they come from different traditions and offer different perspectives on balance and wellbeing.

Whether you are curious about Reiki, Chakra Balancing, or simply exploring different approaches to holistic wellbeing, understanding the connection between the two can help you choose the practice that feels right for you.

Understanding the chakra system

The chakra system has its roots in ancient Indian spiritual traditions and describes seven main energy centres throughout the body.

In many traditions, each chakra is associated with different aspects of our physical, emotional and mental experience.

For many people, the chakra system offers a meaningful framework for self-reflection. Rather than focusing on individual symptoms, it encourages a broader awareness of how different aspects of our lives may influence one another and contribute to our overall sense of wellbeing.

At Healing.Barcelona, we recognise that many people resonate with this framework as a way of cultivating greater self-awareness, balance and connection. This is the perspective we bring to our Chakra Balancing Sessions.

Where Reiki and the chakra system meet

Usui Reiki Ryōhō, founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century, does not traditionally focus on the chakra system. Instead, it emphasises presence, meditation, breath, hands-on practice and living the Reiki Precepts in everyday life.

Although Reiki does not specifically work with the chakra system, a complete Reiki session naturally includes the areas of the body commonly associated with the seven major chakras.

Because a Reiki session typically includes the whole body, from the head to the feet, the areas commonly associated with the seven major chakras are naturally embraced as part of the session. For those who relate to the chakra model, this means the seven main chakras are also naturally embraced within the session, even though they are not the primary focus.

Rather than focusing on individual chakras, Reiki supports the whole person, allowing body and mind to settle into a state of greater balance and relaxation.

In both Reiki and Chakra Balancing, the intention is not to fix something that is "wrong", but to create a supportive space where awareness, relaxation and balance can naturally emerge.

Reiki or Chakra Balancing?

Neither approach is better than the other. They simply offer different perspectives.

Some people appreciate the symbolic framework of the chakra system and enjoy exploring wellbeing through the qualities associated with each energy centre. For them, a Chakra Balancing Session may feel like a natural starting point.

Others are drawn to the simplicity of Reiki, where the emphasis is placed on presence, gentle touch and supporting the body's own capacity to move towards balance.

Many people discover that both approaches complement one another beautifully at different stages of their personal journey.

A Space to Reconnect

Whether you feel drawn to Reiki, the chakra system, or are simply looking for a quiet space to slow down, the intention remains the same: to reconnect with yourself.

At Healing.Barcelona, we don't see Reiki and the chakra system as competing approaches. We simply recognise that different people connect with different traditions, and our intention is to meet each person where they are.

Whether you choose a Reiki Session rooted in traditional Japanese practice or a Chakra Balancing Session, our intention is always the same: to offer a calm, supportive space where you can reconnect with yourself in your own way.
